3 steps to build your personal brand online while working full-time
Today I'm going to talk about 3 steps to build your personal brand while working full-time.
This month, my LinkedIn audience is reaching closer to 20K followers. What's a milestone as I started as a closed LinkedIn profile of 700 connections.
As you are seeing more and more people who are sharing their opinions online, you are probably asking yourself if you should do the same. I'm going to share about my journey to help you make decisions better:
Key benefits of building a personal brand:
- Showcase your expertise
- Attract new opportunities (without finding them)
- Networking with results
- Grow your side business
Let's break them down:
1.A social media network for working professionals is one of the best ways for you to position yourself in the market as an expert in any field. Even if you are not yet an expert, sharing your knowledge and what you learned throughout the process are ways to showcase your expertise.
It will benefit anyone including corporate leaders, startup founders, individual contributors and even juniors like interns and college students. You can start documenting what you've learned in a week or month, it's a way for you to share your voice with the world.
2. While working full-time, we probably all have experienced the taste of job search. As a coach, although I have mentored many people about resume/interview prep, I'm honest that the process itself is not fun sometimes. I mean finding a job is tiring as you have to network, submit application, prep for interview and so on.
Having a strong brand helps you shorten the process a lot. Imagine that instead of searching jobs by yourself, you could have the experience of headhunters, HR executives and corporate managers reach out to you sharing about the openings in the market that are likely fit your profile.
3. Networking is a popular term that people often use when talking about getting to know people for business purposes. To a point that it can be super time consuming if networking doesn't bring any concrete results.
Having a personal brand helps bring public attention and attracts new interesting profiles to you including potential B2B partners, investors, influencers and end customers.
4. Grow your side business: While working full-time, you may have ideas to build something on the side and building a personal is one of the important steps for you to build your side hustle.
