How to handle drinking at work?

I was drinking with my husband last night and noticed December is here with year-end events are coming up. It's a fun time to talk about drinking.

First of all, I want to highlight that you should only drink if you want to.

While many people enjoy the drinking as part of the company's social activities, others may find it uncomfortable for different personal reasons. Let's ignore the social pressure and always focus on what you prefer first - that's the key.

If you decide that drinking is what you are up to then my younger self will wonder what is the best practice to handle it?

Well, you can enjoy the drinking but keep in mind of 3 things as below:

1. ALWAYS EAT before drinking. Ideally, eat till you feel full and the best food to go for are carb (rice/noodle/bread) and hot soup.

Never drink with an empty stomach as it's the fastest and infamous way to get hangover.

2. Know your limit. And if you don't know your limit then remember to drink a lot of water along the way.

3. Keep your glass with you and don't leave it unattended. If you happen to do that, don't pick it up and order a new one. Especially for women, I would go extra cautious about this point and also tell you not to accept any free drink (and even a glass of water) offered from people.
